Buying the Wetronome

Wearing the Wetronome

The Lap Interval Mode

General Questions

What is a Wetronome?
The Wetronome is a small (33mm x 55mm) completely waterproof electronic device. It is worn under a baseball cap, swimcap or swim goggles during training sessions, providing an audible beep to teach swimmers and other athletes rhythm in their stroke. This rhythm can be recalled on race day or any other time to reach your most efficient pace.

How do I set up the stroke rate?
The Wetronome has no buttons or display, two places where chlorine from the pool or other moisture (rain, sweat) can erode and ruin electronics. Instead, the wearer waves a simple magnet at the Wetronome to set the rate.

How do I replace the battery?

You don't. The Wetronome provides years of operation through a patented low-power design. In fact, we designed it for at least one hour use every day for 3-5 years. That is a lot of beeps per dollar!

Can I use it for other sports?

Although the Wetronome was originally developed for swimmers, many people have come to us to apply it to other sports. Please let us know about your success story!

How do you turn the beeping thing off?
The Wetronome will turn itself off after two hours of operation, or you can simply hold the wand in front of the Wetronome for about four seconds.

Can the Wetronome inadvertently be turned on?
It could, although by attaching the wand to your sports bag,or basically 5cm away from the device, it will be fine. The wand can be worn on a lanyard and makes an attractive pendant :).

Do I have to set the rate with each use?
No, the Wetronome will remember the last setting between uses. When you wake it up, it will start by sounding and flashing the LED with the last used rate.

Does the Wetronome come in other colours?
Currently the Wetronome is only made in yellow, easy to see underwater, even though it does float. We may consider a red or orange model in the future.

Buying the Wetronome

Where can I buy the Wetronome?

This used to be a more involved answer, but now all sales go through our global distributor Swim Smooth, which you can get to from here.

Can I buy the Wetronome in the US?
Yes indeed!  Swim Smooth has plenty of product sales on the books to all parts of North America (and everywhere else in fact), and you will find plenty of testimonials scattered around the Swim Smooth website.   All products are shipped from the UK:  see their comprehensive international shipping policy. While there, have a read of the money-back guarantee.

Is it safe to buy Wetronomes online?
Yes it is! We protect your credit card details by using a secure payment gateway administered by PayPal and authenticated by Thawte Consulting.

Wearing the Wetronome

Will wearing the Wetronome under my goggles cause them to leak?

Our users have been wearing Wetronomes under swimcaps and under goggles since 2004 without issues.   The broad flat Wetronome surface gives the user the best sound conduction, and minimal stress on the goggle strap, allowing for hours of comfortable wear.

Can I hear the beep in a noisy environment?

You wouldn't believe how many hours of testing we did to tune the volume, duration, and frequency of the prompt to be suited to the ambient conditions at a public pool. Our many trials spanning a number of months took into consideration the ability to hear the beep without driving the wearer crazy.

Introducing the Lap Interval Mode

What is the Lap Interval Mode?
You can now program the Wetronome to give you a beep-beep in the time you wish to swim a lap. For example, if you want to swim one km at a consistent pace of 45 seconds every 50m, set the Wetronome to prompt you every 45 seconds.

Is this really the first new feature in five years?
It is. Why change a good thing?

Will this change how I use the Wetronome for stroke rate pacing?
No.. the designers have cleverly left that feature exactly as it was. To use the Lap Interval Mode, just keep the wand held to the Wetronome for the entire time of flashing and beeping as the Wetronome wakes up. The method for using Stroke Rate Mode is to wake up the Wetronome with the wand, and then take the wand away as it does its initialflashes and beeps. Same same.

How do I change from Stroke Rate Mode to Lap Interval Mode, or vice versa?
Simply turn off the Wetronome and then turn it on again in the desired mode (see the previous question). The Wetronome will remember the rate you last programmed, whichever mode it was.

Can I get my existing Wetronome upgraded to the new feature?

Our long time customers know that our idea of a "sealed unit" applies to everything about the device, so you will need to purchase a new unit for the new feature. But talk to directly with our master distributor Swim Smooth, who may be able to give you a loyalty discount.. and we know they will provide better prices for volume purchases.
